Reports to: Training Lead
Job Summary:
The Technical Counsellor will be responsible for providing career guidance to the students who are enquiring. They will offer technical insight into the programs offered, assess the educational and career goals of students, and help them select the appropriate training courses to achieve those goals. This role requires a combination of technical knowledge and excellent communication skills to effectively counsel students on the curriculum, career opportunities, and industry trends.
Key Responsibilities:
- Student Counselling:
- Provide one-on-one counselling sessions to prospective students, helping them understand the technical programs available.
- Assess students’ background, education, and career goals to recommend suitable courses or programs.
- Guide students on career paths based on their technical skills and industry trends.
- Course & Program Guidance:
- Explain the curriculum and learning outcomes of the various technical programs offered by the institute
- Help students understand the prerequisites, course structure, and certification requirements of each program.
- Industry & Career Advice:
- Stay updated on the latest industry trends, job market conditions, and technological advancements to provide accurate advice to students.
- Provide students with guidance on job placements, internships, and certifications that enhance employability.
- Admissions & Enrolment Support:
- Assist the admissions team by evaluating students’ educational qualifications and providing insights on program eligibility.
- Help students complete the enrolment process, including documentation, payment plans.
- Technical Assessments:
- Administer technical assessments or pre-tests to gauge a student’s technical knowledge and skill level, helping guide them toward the right course.
- Provide feedback to students on the areas where they need improvement.
- Collaboration with Faculty:
- Work closely with course instructors and technical faculty to stay informed about the latest course content and updates.
- Communicate with faculty members regarding student progress and any additional resources or support needed.
- Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain records of all counseling sessions, assessments, and student progress.
- Prepare reports on student enrollment, program feedback, and career placement success.
- Student Support:
- Address student queries and concerns related to course selection, scheduling, certification, or placement.
- Offer continuous support to students throughout their course to ensure their academic and career success.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Educational Background:
- Bachelor’s degree in a technical field (e.g., Computer Science, Engineering, IT) or relevant field. A Master’s degree or certification in counseling or education is a plus.
- Experience:
- 2+ years of experience in student counselling, academic advising, or career guidance, preferably in a technical training environment.
- Experience in a technical or IT-related role is highly desirable.
- Technical Knowledge:
- Strong understanding of technical subjects like IT, software development, networking, or engineering.
- Familiarity with industry certifications and training programs (e.g., Linux, AWS, Cisco, Microsoft, etc.).
- Skills:
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to simplify complex technical concepts for students of varying skill levels.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
- Proficiency in using CRM systems or student management tools.
